A: Radio Broadcast license for usage of members’ repertoire to Broadcasters on their Terrestrial radio stations, Community radio stations and National public radio stations.
B: Public Performance licenses to venues and establishments for the usage of members' sound recordings for Background Music and in Events.
“Public Performance” refers to the playing of music (sound recordings) by any premises/establishments where the communication of these sound recordings is to the public (multiple individuals) and not for personal consumption. This usage can be at, but not limited to hotels, discotheques, clubs, lounges, pubs, shops, stores, malls, salons, hospitals, offices, amusement parks, buses, taxis, aircraft or any form of transportation, which use sound recordings on a regular basis. In addition, playing recorded music at events, shows, parties, social functions, with or without DJs, also falls under the purview of Public Performance.
Background Music License: All those who play or communicate sound recordings (of our members) for use in public places or commercial establishments/premises by way of any audio device/Radio/TV/streaming services/background music services or through any other technology must obtain a prior Annual Background Music (BG) licence from PPL. Event Music License: Any corporate or individual using recorded music belonging to PPL members during the course of an event, be it a corporate/social/award show/fashion show or any other event will require a prior PPL Event License which will be valid for the duration of the event only.
If you are playing sound recording as a filler or a minus one track or a backing track in the live event, then a PPL Event license will be required.
Yes. As the name implies; background music creates an environment conducive for the premise to enhance its ambience thereby improving consumer engagement. An event uses music as a more engaging medium while hosting a party/gathering etc., a separate event license would hence be required.
Yes, PPL license has to be taken if PPL sound recording is being played at a public premise like a Club/Banquet hall, etc.
